The consequences of unemployment, especially long-term, can be extremely serious; not only does it affect the nation’s overall economy, but also the unemployed individuals, themselves. It can often be detrimental and take a huge toll on someone because not having a job can definitely be financially, emotionally, and psychologically destructive.

The importance of having a job is much more significant than we might actually think and it certainly extends beyond a salary. Research has suggested that productive work has been a key element for one’s happiness and wellbeing.

On the other hand, persistent and lingering unemployment can potentially lead to things such as illness, depression and even suicide.

The World Happiness Report explains that those who were employed evaluated the quality of their lives much higher on average when compared to those who were unemployed. This study found that those individuals who were unemployed reported to have around 30 percent more negative emotional experiences in their everyday lives than those who were not.

Further research has also supported this claim that happiness can be heavily influenced by the non-monetary aspects of employment, which include certain things like being able to establish social status and relations, daily structure, as well as having goals. Although this research does not focus too much on the idea that money results in happiness, being able to earn money is necessary in order to provide for the individual’s own personal needs and have some sustainability.

Although unemployment rates in the U.S. have seemed to gone down for several years, it is still a big issue that has has been prevalent in states all over the nation, including Illinois.

Unemployment is a big issue that has been prevalent in Illinois throughout many years. The percentage rates vary from county to county, some of them having higher unemployment rates than others.

Rudy Carranza of the West Garfield Park neighborhood in Chicago Illinois, lost his job as an HR assistant at an engineering company in Oak Brook, Illinois in November 2018. He has been fighting to get a new job ever since. “Finding a job nowadays is not easy.” said Carranza, 28. “There is a lot of skill sets needed for a job that I did for four years and I still struggle to find a new job.” Rudy and many others find themselves in these type of struggles throughout all of Illinois.

Connor Quinn, 23-year-old marketing intern from Schaumburg Illinois, found himself unemployed last summer due to intense competition. Even with his bachelor’s degree in Marketing, he still found himself struggling to find employment.

“For almost 6 months I was unemployed and searching for jobs. Even with my degree I felt helpless. Finding a job is a hassle and I feel very lucky to have a job now.”

Quinn also offered a word of advice for those who are struggling with unemployment,

“I recommended to apply to as many places as possible. Do not stop applying even when you feel like you constantly are getting rejected, keep applying,” he said.

In February of 2019, the state’s unemployment rate was +0.5 percentage points higher than the national unemployment rate reported for the month; the rate in Illinois was at 4.3 percent while the national rate was at 3.8 percent. As we can see from the graph, the Illinois unemployment rate is down by -0.1 percentage points since the last year in February of 2018,  which was 4.4 percent.

The counties with the highest rates of unemployment are in counties are Cook, DuPage, Ford, and Wayne, among countless others..

For any individuals who are interested in moving to Illinois or interested in moving to a different city in Illinois, here are the cities with the lowest unemployment rates in the state. As can be seen, the population and the unemployment numbers are in good standing, so in these cities residents could have a much easier time finding employment.

Given the importance of unemployment in the U.S., it is crucial to try and and understand the causes of unemployment and how it can affect communities and the nation, as a whole. It is good to be informed of and even involved of organizations that can provide helpful resources to help the unemployed find jobs in different fields.

Cancun in 1984 vs. 2017

2017

1984

As can be seen, Cancun has come a long way with its industrialization and urbanization in its City. Cancun is a very popular tourist attraction. It has many resorts and hotels available to people who want to have a nice vacation so this has brought in a huge amount of income for the city which has helped them be able to build many new businesses, stores, hotels, resorts, hospitals and schools. The development of Cancun has been a recent modernization project for the city. In the mid 1960s, the city was a very underdeveloped, with little to no buildings and mostly jungle. It had one of the poorest regions of an emerging nation. However, By year 2000, the city began getting over two million visitors each year because of their beautiful beaches and highly praised resorts.

The development of the city of Cancun has been mostly determined by the planning of the Mexican government. “This resort, which, according to FONATUR data, makes up 20.8% percent of the nation’s tourism income, is the crown jewel of state-planned tourism centers in Mexico and an exemplar to both the Caribbean/Latin American region and the world.” ( Holly Renee Pelas, 2011).  As can be seen in the photos above, Cancun has really developed and come a long way even from the 1980s. Based on the popular opinions of its resorts, Cancun is most likely going to continue bringing in a lot of annual income from tourist and therefore continuing to grow. The only downfall for their in come is if they would not ensure the safety of the visitors. As long as Cancun keeps a solid plan on how to keep ensuring the safety of the visitors, they will continue to expand.

The Patriots win the 2019 Super Bowl

The Rams are trending much more than the Patriots even after their loss 13-3

The Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots went face-to-face on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019 in Super Bowl LIII.

The Super Bowl LIII was the first time that these two teams have played each other since 2016.

Since New England ended up defeating the Rams this Super Bowl, the Rams now have a lot of catching up to do with the Patriots. “New England defeating the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, 13-3, means that now New England has racked up seven other wins against the Rams in 13 total games for an all-time record of 8–5.” (ESPN, 2019).

Both teams have an interesting history together, both have won and lost each other many times. The first time the teams played each other back in 1974, when the Rams lost 20–14 to New England. But then in 1980, the Rams defeated the Patriots 17-40. In 1989, 1992, 1998 and 01, the Rams had four honest victories over the Patriots but lost two matchup games against the Patriots before these victories.

In 2002, the Rams and the Patriots also played each other, and the Patriots defeated the Rams 20-17. The Rams still seem to be waiting to make their come-back towards the Patriots.

Playing in his nine Super Bowls, the Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, officially has six rings as of the 2019 Super Bowl. It is no surprise that Brady maintains numerous Super Bowl records, but it is incredible how he does not give up and isn’t going to any time soon. He is the oldest quarterback in the NFL but this doesn’t stop him from continuing to dominate the field. He also continues to have an astonishing record in the Super Bowl. Not only has brady played in the most Super Bowl games, oldest quarterback in the NFL, and has the most Super Bowl rings, but also has great records at pretty much everything else..

Brady’s Super Bowl records Brady:

Most games played (9)

Oldest quarterback (41)

Most passes competed, game (43)

Most passing touchdowns, career (18)

Most wins (6)

Most passing touchdowns, career (18)

Most passes completed, game (43)

Most passes without a interception, game (43)

As seen by Bradys records, no matter what age he is or how many rings he has he still continues to be motivated and want to do better each year. Being 41 isn’t stopping him anytime soon and he will be continuing to play next season.

LeBron James Career Free-throw Percentages

Chart of LeBron James’ Free-throws Throughout his Career

LeBron James is very known changing his free throw routine over his whole career. During the 2006-07 season, James made a “lucky” free throw trick which was to kiss each wrist before shooting which is meant as a tribute to his mother and now-wife.Tom Haberstoch says that this season, “the tinkering has turned extreme — James remixing the same sequence over and over, like a musician searching for the right version of a broken melody. At times, he’s changed his routine multiple times in the same game. If he misses badly enough, he’ll alter it between free throws.” When it comes to free throw shooters, Stan Van Gundy, who is the Pistons coach says that he has seen practically everything when it comes to basketball… He has coached some of the best at the free throw line, like J.J. Redick and Ryan Anderson, and Gundy says that “it’s very rare for NBA players to change their routine.” You could watch 10 players all year long, he says, and they won’t change a thing. “For the typical player, free throw alterations almost never happen.” Maybe once or twice a career,” Van Gundy says, but Lebron on the other hand has clearly made many changes and they all continue to be successful in his career.
